In order to optimize the benefits of Nitrox , we can use a diving computer that "knows" how to calculate the bottom times according to the percentage of oxygen in the cylinder from which the diver breathes.
in order to use Nitrox computers safely, the diver must be certified as a "Nitrox diver", and also be proficient in the operation of the computer, as there may be situations in which a discrepancy between the gas we breathe and the calculations made by the diving computer will exposes us to one or more diving risks.
As we allredy know, the diving computer (like the diving tables) shows us the maximum permitted bottom time for each depth according to the calculations of nitrogen loading in the tissues. If we want to take advantage of Nitrox breathing to extend the bottom time, we need to update the computer with the oxygen percentage we have in our Nitrox cylinder. As a result, the diving computer will calculate the percentage of nitrogen we breathe and based on this figures, will calculate the diving bottom times. Simultaneously, the level of oxygen toxicity exposure will be computed, and any relevant alarms will be triggered if required.
