Although diving computers have added many safety factors, it is imperative to observe the basic safety rules when diving:
- When planning a series of dives, start with the deep dive to the shallow dive.
- Limit dive depth and bottom time to your qualification and experience level.
- Follow all dive profile planning instructions even when using a dive computer. For example: every dive will begin at the deepest point, avoid "saw tooth" diving profile, etc.
- Perform a mandatory safety stop at the end of each dive. Safety stop will be done at a depth of 6 meters for a minimum of 3 minutes.
- Avoid flying after diving.
These safety rules have been supplemented by unique rules for the use of diving computers:
- Use your computer only as directed by your computer manufacturer.
- Determine the settings of the computer with conservatismin relation to diving risk factors.
- When using Nitrox computers, update the oxygen percentage you breathe to your computer.
- The dive computer accurately describes only the diving profile of the diver wearing it. The diving computer is personal equipment. It is forbidden to use the computer as long as the computer "remembers" nitrogen debt from another diver.
- You must not switch between tables and your computer during repeated dives.
- If the dive computer turns off or breaks down during and/or after the dive, or if you have to replace a diving computer, wait at least 24 hours before the next dive.
- Before each dive, make sure your dive computer battery is charged and charge it if necessary. In case of battery replacement, nitrogen loading data will erased, so wait at least 24 hours before the next dive.
- If the dive computer turns off during the dive, the dive must be completed immediately, wile maintain a safe ascent rate and making a safety stop of at least 3 minutes at a depth of 6 meters.
- In the event of a computer malfunction (as described in the previous sections), it is not recommended to fly for 12 hours after the end of the dive.
